Subject: Candidacy of Kazan (Russia) to Host the 27th Summer Universiade 2013
President of the RSSU Oleg V. Matytsin
Dear Mr. Killian,
On behalf of the Russian Students’ Sports Union, we have the great honor of submitting our bid for the candidacy of the city of Kazan to host the 27th Summer Universiade 2013.
Today in Russia, just as earlier in the Soviet Union, high priority is given to the promotion of university sports programs both on a national and international level. Russian students have recently achieved notable success at major international university sporting events. Bearing in mind the significance of sportsmanship values which help unite people of different nationalities and faiths as well as encourage friendship, fraternity, individual development and intercultural exchange, the organizing of the greatest international university sporting event will be an outstanding sports and cultural festival for the Republic of Tatarstan, as well as for the youth of Russia, and help further promote university sports both in Russia and worldwide. We would be delighted to see the 27th Universiade take place in Russia, especially as the last time the Universiade was held here was in 1973 – precisely 40 years ago.
We believe that the unique, thousand year old city of Kazan, with its rich sports and cultural traditions, sport-loving inhabitants, qualified human resources and developed sports facilities infrastructure, represents the most worthy choice for hosting the 27th Summer Universiade 2013.
With the full support and guarantees we have obtained from the Governments of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Russian Federation as well as from national sports federations, we would like to assure you that the Universiade will be held at the highest level possible and become a magnificent event in the history of international university sports.
